GILLINGHAM, UK: Once again, Henry Schein UK has donated medical supplies to the International College of Dentists’ (ICD) Global Visionary Fund. The products were used to support the Dentistry For Every Village Foundation on a one-week expedition to the Philippines. Over the course of the mission, volunteer health care professionals took care of more than 400 patients in need.

Seven dentists, two physicians, four dental assistants and 14 nurses performed about 250 extractions, 50 composite/amalgam fillings, 85 fissure sealants and more than 100 prophylaxis treatments during the charitable campaign. In addition, a new dental clinic at the St Scholastica’s Mission Hospital was opened to enhance access to dental care for people in the greater region.

According to the foundation, the new dental clinic possesses the first digital dental radiographic system in Northern Samar. It also has an ultraviolet-light disinfection system that helps to keep the sterile instruments clean, as well as a water filtration system to resolve water sanitation issues, which are prevalent in most rural areas in the Philippines.

“It is heart-warming to see indigent people get the care they need. Needless to say, without the help of the ICD Global Visionary Found and Henry Schein, the mission would not have turned out to be so successful,” said Dr Ed de la Vega, President of the Dentistry For Every Village Foundation.

Over the last four years, Henry Schein has collaborated with the ICD as a diamond sponsor. In addition, Henry Schein supports the ICD’s Global Visionary Fund through Henry Schein Cares, the company’s global corporate social responsibility programme.

“This is an important part of our global commitment to society,” said Simon Gambold, Vice President of the European Dental Northern Region and of Marketing of the European Dental Group at Henry Schein. “Henry Schein is proud of our long-term partnership with the International College of Dentists and also the ICD’s Global Visionary Fund to advance oral health around the world.”
